2006 UMCOR Mission Team

Perryville UMC Mission Team delivered 90 gallons of bleach to UMCOR to aid those cleaning up after Katrina and Rita hit the Gulf Coast area.
This year we missed our friend Kay Johnson, as we traveled
to Louisiana.  I will never be able to go there again without thinking of her.  She was there in spirit watching as we carried on the tradition of our faith.
There were groups from across the US who came to give
their time and talents to aid those who were hurting, without
homes and without the simplest assets, like soap, toothpaste,
bandaids, combs, wash cloths and towels.  Texas boasted
2 groups from the Lonestar state, groups from Sulphur Springs
and Tyler, great people to work and fellowship with during our
stay @ UMCOR.

  • They went to serve people in need around the world
    and at home.
  • And the mission continues after they leave UMCOR
and return home, as the membership begins gathering
kits to aid disaster relief to send next year.
  • How are you willing to help in the effort?  You may be
unable to travel to UMCOR Sager-Brown but there are
dozens of ways you can be in mission doing this work
right here at home.  Contact any of the Mission team
members to find out how you can best help in this effort.

TEACH US HOW TO LIVE

God of love -- forgive! forgive!
Teach us how to truly live,
Ask us not our race or creed
Just take us in our hour of need,

Let us know You love us too,
And that we are a part of You..
And someday may man realize,
That all the earth, t
he seas and skies..

Belong to God who made us all,
The rich, the poor, the great, the small,
And in the Father's Holy sight,
No man is yellow, black or white.

And Peace On Earth cannot be found,
Until we meet on Common Ground,

And every man becomes a brother,
Who worships God and loves each other.

The Routine:

Each morning Sager-Brown begins with the alarm going off @ 6:00/6:30 a.m. - time to shower & dress.  All teams meet in the cafeteria promptly @ 7:30 a.m for a circle blessing and breakfast, whichever team is scheduled to do dishes is the team that brings the blessing.  Those doing dishes are first in line to be served.  Each team then schedules their own daily devotions (this is done between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m.)  this task is rotated within the team members.  All volunteers are scheduled to begin their workday @ 8:30 a.m.

There is a mid morning break, and then the work breaks again @ 11:30 a.m. for lunch.  12:00 Noon all volunteers meet in the cafeteria for a circle blessing and lunch, with dishwashers filing through first.  Often this is the hour in which the gift shop is open for those who want to take home souveniers.

By 1:00 p.m. work begins again, with a mid afternoon break, and the workday ending @ 3:30 p.m.  Dinner is served @ 5:30 p.m again beginning with a circle blessing and dishwasher filing through first.  Other announcements are also made during the blessing time.

Tuesday evenings are culture evening and Thursday evenings a Vespers Service with Holy Communion is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.  A time I am not likely to forget again.  Oops.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The good things in life are not to be had singly, but come to us with a mixture; like a schoolboy's holiday, with a task affixed to the tail of it.  Be part of the good things in life.  God has sent us out into the world to serve,  let us do so cheerfully in the spirit of love and faith.
